We have an in-house print design team who hand draw prints for all occasions.
We spoke to Stacie and Kate and they have given us an insight into the print process.
What’s the process behind creating a new print for PixieGirl?
When starting a new print we like to gather inspirational images / photos and create a mood board as a starting point and reference back to this throughout the whole process. We will then either hand draw/paint or use Procreate on the ipads to start drawing elements that we then take into Photoshop to edit, recolour, manipulate and begin an all over repeated layout. We then show the print to the buyers for feedback before the print is matched with relevant pantone colours and sent out to the manufacturer for sampling.
What is your favourite print you have recently designed?
We have started designing A/W prints already, there a lot of fun, blurred digital prints around and its been exciting to work into these.
What was the inspiration behind this print?
Kate – For this print I was inspired by rifling through the scarf boxes in vintage markets – I took influence from the various styles and decades
Stacie – We wanted to create something bold and fun with a folky edge so I took inspiration from some traditional folk textiles.
Stacie – The inspiration for this came from 70s psychedelic and optical illusion prints, but with an oversized feel so it was a big statement print.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Stacie – Being able to draw and be creative every day is really key but I also really enjoy being involved in the trend process at the start of each season and looking at catwalks and other emerging trends.
Kate – I love that I get to be creative and draw every single day – it really is my childhood dream come true!
